The Wellness Center family joins our Alma family in mourning the passing of Dr. Jean G. Champommier

Dr. Champommier recently retired from Alma Family Services as President and CEO, and served the Alma family, and our community for more than 40 years in various roles including an educator, social worker, a family therapist, a businessman, a LA County Public Health Commissioner, and nonprofit administrator.

Dr. Champommier dedicated his life to advancing behavioral health and child welfare, and inspiring a new generation of committed leaders. Dr. Champommier worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life of families and individuals coping with a range of needs including significant emotional difficulties, substance abuse and/or developmental challenges.

Most importantly, Dr. Champommier worked to ensure that a range of quality community integrated multilingual and multicultural services, including early intervention and prevention, was made available to our underserved community. Furthermore, his work supported empowerment at the individual, group and community level to effectively reduce the barriers which negatively impacted their lives.

Finally, Dr. Champommier was a champion for the rights and responsibilities of families and individuals with special needs.  He advocated for families by working with businesses, civic associations, and local, state and federal officials to increase knowledge of the abilities and contributions of individuals with special needs.

Dr. Champommier’s work earned him great respect and recognition from those he served to community leaders and decision makers including commendations from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, the City of El Monte, the City of Pico Rivera, LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, the City of Los Angeles, and Congresswoman Judy Chu to name a few.

Dr. Champommier will be greatly missed but his legacy will impact our community for generations to come.
