About: 

​​L.A. Care is the nation's largest public health plan created by the state of California to provide health coverage to low-income Los Angeles residents. More than one million Los Angeles County residents are served by free or low-cost health insurance plans which include: Medi-Cal, L.A. Care Covered, L.A. Care's Healthy Kids, L.A. Care's Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan, Homecare Workers Health Care Plan, and L.A. Care CalMediConnect Plan.

L.A. Care's Family Resource Centers offer free health education classes throughout Los Angeles County, including Boyle Heights. They work closely with local community-based organizations to deliver high-quality health education programs and services, free of charge, that address important health topics. Furthermore, L.A. Care places a high priority on delivering culturally appropriate health education services. The activities focus on health promotion and education with an emphasis on chronic disease management and prevention of asthma, diabetes, and weight management (obesity prevention). 

 

Services Provided at The Wellness Center:

Counseling, Therapy, & Peer Support Group: L.A. Care offers a Wellness Circle focused on conflict resolution. 

Healthcare Enrollment & Legal Assistance: L.A. Care assists clients with member orientation. 

Health & Fitness Group Classes: L.A. Care offers a variety of group classes including a Healthy Cooking Class, Oral Health Class, Dance Fitness, Yoga Aerobics, Family Yoga, Advanced Yoga, & Cardio Dance. 

Healthy Families, Children, & Youth: L.A. Care also offers  CPR/First Aid trainings for individuals 16+. 

Managing Chronic Conditions: L.A. Care offers consultations with a Registered Dietitian to assist with nutrition.
